Marta
Dalton’s lecture on digital marketing and their analysis of Coca Cola was very
useful. It was nice to be able to see what we have been learning about put to
work in a company we all know. Marta’s PowerPoint was also very useful in that
she showed us just how complicated digital marketing landscapes and machine
intelligence landscapes can be. I also appreciated that she went into depth on
what type of skills you would need to go into a specific field in digital marketing.
Karl
Herleman gave a very informative presentation and tour of MSA. It was very
fascinating how many different products (and T.V. shows!) can benefit from business
analysis’ and information technology systems. During the MSA tour, I realized
that there are many jobs in this line of work that does not require you to have
extensive knowledge of coding and programming. During the presentation I
learned about how the “waterfall” business model works, and the how that model
can be very inefficient.
Ginger
Polozoff’s presentation on project management was very well-organized and presented.
In this presentation we learned about the steps in a project, project
management, deliverables, stakeholders, project charters, network diagrams,
scope creep, the triple constraint, work breakdown structure, and critical
path. I think Ginger’s presentation was very effective because during that
class she had the class take notes, work in groups, and quizzed for every few
topics.
During this semester of Information Systems and Operations, I have developed many useful skills and have had so many good experiences listening to speakers like Marta Dalton, Karl Herleman, and Ginger Polozoff. Learning how to use Tableau, Access, and many new function on Excel has given me a much better understanding how businesses function, and will very useful in the future. I will probably use these skills in the future for my job and internship. The team project in this class has positively affected me personally and professionally, because I have learned how to plan and work well with others. After filling out the post-course survey and looking at the pre-course survey, I realized I knew absolutely nothing about information systems, and that this class has taught me so many things that I will need for a future in business.
